“La pace parte da noi”. San Calogero e il fiume di fede raccontato da Don Gerlando

Agrigento gathers every year around the figure of San Calogero, one of the city's most beloved saints, and this year too the celebration proved to be a moment of great participation and spirituality. Despite the heat that accompanied the day, the procession went flawlessly, without a hitch, as underlined by Don Gerlando Montana Lampo, rector of the Sanctuary of San Calogero. "Heat aside, everything else is going very well", declared the priest, visibly satisfied with the response of the faithful and the community. One of the most touching images of the day was that of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, which proved to be one of the epicenters of the celebration. "A river of people" said Don Gerlando, underlining how the basilica was "completely packed" with devotees who, since the early hours of the morning, fervently participated in the celebrations in honor of the saint. A particularly significant moment was the one linked to the distribution of bread, a tradition that has never ceased. "Up to this moment, no bread has been wasted", declared the rector, who also highlighted how the gifts received will be given to the neediest families through the parish Caritas, as a sign of solidarity. Don Gerlando then launched a message of peace, which deeply touched all those present. "Live in serenity, first within personal walls, then in family contexts and in all the places we live in every day", he exhorted, inviting the faithful to make peace a daily mission. "Peace is contagious", he concluded, recalling how each of us, living in peace, can contribute to spreading it in the world. The feast of San Calogero is not only a religious event, but also an opportunity for meeting, sharing and hope, capable of uniting the Agrigento community in an embrace of faith and solidarity.
