This entire region around the Dachstein mountain is like a postcard and is hard to describe in words. Starting at the picture-perfect Gosausee, I found myself surrounded by towering alpine peaks reflected in the lake’s crystal-clear waters. The trail was a harmonious mix of lush forests, rocky paths, and panoramic viewpoints that had me stopping often to soak in the sheer beauty of the Austrian Alps.This hidden gem, nestled among the mountains, felt like a sanctuary—completely untouched and breathtakingly peaceful. Hiking in Austria offers an unmatched blend of challenge and reward, and this trail is easily one of the best hikes I’ve experienced in Europe. Whether you’re seeking solitude, adventure, or a chance to reconnect with nature, this route delivers it all. For anyone planning to explore the Austrian Alps, I can’t recommend the journey from Gosausee to Hinterer Gosausee enough.
