On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists breached the border fortifications between Gaza and Israel and transformed the nearby electronic music festival into a scene of horror: More than 360 people died, and around 40 were taken hostage. Hamas's brutal attack was followed by Israel's devastating counterattack – and nothing was the same again. In particular, Hamas's extensive tunnel system was a recurring topic; weapons, water supplies, and food were allegedly stored there. Reports indicate, for example, that there are underground offices and apartments for the political and military Hamas leadership.
