This is an educational video about Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalysis. In the sixteenth episode of the Sigmund Freud – Psychoanalysis series, we understand the ego's defense mechanisms: unconscious processes that protect the psyche from internal conflicts, anxiety, and unacceptable desires. Freud laid the groundwork (repression as central), and Anna Freud systematized 10 main ones in 1936: repression, denial, projection, sublimation (more mature), regression, rationalization, reaction formation, displacement, introjection, and identification. They are normal, but when rigid or primitive they generate suffering. The ego negotiates between the id, superego, and reality—it never resolves the conflict, only manages it.
