The upper floor houses shops and the lower floor houses a dry goods market. [2] This building was formerly a movie theater, named Chalermthai Cinema. [3] The name Kim Yong Market comes from the full name "Chi Kim Yong Market," named after the Chinese wealthy Chi Kim Yong and his wife, Lamai, [3], who were the original owners of the land. Kim Yong Market is a famous market alongside Santisuk Market, which sells electrical appliances, perfumes, and cosmetics, located on Niphat Uthit Road in the same area. In the past, the lower floor of Kim Yong Market served as a fresh market like any other market, selling goods from Malaysia, particularly dried food, instant coffee, snacks, cosmetics, and electrical appliances. These goods were well-known for being smuggled in without paying taxes.
