Bridal Couture Week Collection 2019 is a tribute to “The Lady of Amritsar” and the finest pieces of art that have inspired MARIA.B. over the years When I was 16 years old, I saw a painting titled “The Lady of Amritsar” at an art exhibition. The painting, oil on canvas, was a sumptuous depiction of a grand Punjabi lady, decked in her exquisitely fine attire. I was captivated by how the artist had managed to portray a flawlessly refined woman in all her splendour, clothes and jewels, in such intricate detail; I felt overwhelmed with love for the timeless charm and grace of native fashion and our cultural heirlooms. Throughout my journey as a designer, I have been blessed to see acclaimed pieces of art across the world, from the Western tradition to the Eastern treasure trove, from obscure African to even Balkan and Turkic artists. An appreciation for art is a passion for me just as much as the pursuit of good design. And so, the MARIA. B. Bridal Couture Week Collection 2019 is a tribute to “The Lady of Amritsar” and the finest pieces of art I have been inspired by over the years.
