So they opted to supply Berlin by air; a major victory for the CIA. In the mid-1980s, the war between the CIA and the KGB shifted. Ronald Reagan initiated "Star Wars," building a giant missile defense shield. This was the final phase of the Cold War. Finally, on June 11, 1985, the most important spy swap in history took place, and in 1989 the Berlin Wall, its most visible symbol, fell.
