Walk Into Your 911 Interview Prepared and Confident

The interview is one of the most critical steps in the 911 hiring process—and walking in unprepared can cost you the job. Even though you won’t know the exact questions a department will ask, most agencies focus on the same four core skill areas during interviews. In this video, I break down those four areas and give you written prompts you can use to build strong, structured answers. You’ll find the prompts at the end of the video so you can start practicing right away. My recommendation: write your answers out in full paragraphs, revise them until they sound natural, then practice reading them out loud word for word. As you get more comfortable, move away from reading and toward recall. Finally, write the four core skills on separate pieces of paper, pull them at random, and practice giving real examples on the spot—just like you’ll have to do in the interview.
