Phim màu, Hà nội những năm 1980 - Câu chyện thời bao cấp!

COLOR FILM - STORY OF THE SUBSIDY PERIOD. Everyone said that the subsidy period was miserable and deprived, everyone was the same: one piece of pants - a few pieces of shirt. Working for the government, every year you could buy 5 meters of fabric but usually you couldn't buy it, the trade announced "DEBT" until the middle of the following year. The days passed so the standard often extended to 14 or 18 months. It was like sugar coupons, food, rice, cooking oil with limited quantities and still having endless DEBT like that without knowing who to ask for it from. We had to wait until the trade had goods to sell, then we jostled to buy because the coupons had an expiration date. People in each shop worried about how much they had to worry about. But the people were really good, they really had a thousand tricks to make ends meet for meals and daily clothes. In a family with many children, parents have to be very resourceful to make ends meet. If the older brother's clothes are short, they give them to the younger brother. If the older sister's clothes are tight, they give them to the younger brother. They never dare to use them as towels until they are torn like a loofah that cannot be mended. Every month, each commoner gets 300 grams of meat. If they work for the government, they get 500 grams, but the government often sells industrial white fat, salty salted meat like Soviet salt, or peanut oil instead of meat. Buying smuggled meat from outside is expensive and the Market Management Department also strictly enforces it, but people are very resourceful. They often go to great lengths to buy pig intestines and pig skin from slaughterhouses somewhere to eat as snacks. Or if at the market there is a skinny duck or chicken or a dozen eggs that someone raised on their own and sells them, they compete to buy them. Sometimes at the market or on the street corner, there appears a tray of dog meat, goose meat, beef, buffalo meat, not knowing if it is fresh or rotten, it is sold out in one go. Kerosene for cooking was 5 liters per month for a household, which was not enough for cooking, and there was always a “debt” until the following month, so we had to go to the riverbank to buy sawdust from the wood workshop, buy rice husks from the mill, buy firewood or bamboo floating on the river from the people on the beach… to add more to make the fire last for the whole month. The children back then were really good. Whenever they had free time, they would sweep up the fallen leaves on the street to use as fuel for the stove. If they found a few more branches, they would be as happy as if they had won the lottery. At that time, wood was also extremely expensive and rare, and it was rare to see someone throwing a rotten door frame or bed ladder on the street. If they could find it and bring it home to cook, they would be HAPPY as if they had found gold. Most people rode bicycles, and the chain was so loose that it had to be cut and re-cut several times, so it often slipped off. And every time the chain was about to slip off, it would chew on it, and the hem of the pants would become ragged, called “perch bites”. Every time a “perch bites” the hem of the pants, the same day they had to sew it up skillfully to cover up the tattered hem of the pants. I feel so sorry for the poor pants, every time they do that they get a little shorter. Bought 5 deformed bowls from the Hai Duong Porcelain Factory, which a lady who must have been given a reward suddenly brought to sell in front of the door, because all the genuine bowls were exported, the trade only displayed SAMPLES NOT FOR SALE, and the house only had a few Chinese military iron bowls that had chipped enamel and were too hot to hold. Nowadays - it is difficult to make yourself happy in that miserable and easy way anymore. Where can you find those distant days, the days of youth, without even a trace of that "spring"!
