Naxos pottery 2024

Video and photographs of the potter Manolis Limpertas in his workshop at Damalas, Naxos where he represents the fourth generation of a local tradition originally introduced by his grandfather, Dimitrios Chrysos, who arrived from Sifnos around 1870. Also shown are numerous other pots of local and diverse origin seen in the main town of Chora and around the island, including storage pots in the monastary of Agia and a beehive seen in a deserted windmill at Tripodes (Vivlos). Beehives and other pots used in wine- and cheese-making, distilling are also seen displayed alongside tablewares in the excellent The Vassilis and Kathy Koutelieris Folk Museum. The accompanying music is by Cretan musician Dimitris Stavrakakis.
