This is from their unofficial tape "A Few Old Tunes" from 1996. Details about the release: https://www.discogs.com/Boards-Of-Can... I prepared to do this for some time, because it is a real gem in their crown. It took some time because I wanted to do it right and not modify their vision too much. Yes, I know "A Few Old Tunes" was intended for their friends only and it was released before they became well known but fortunately someone shared it once and I'm not sad because of this. ;) At first I wanted to make a cover of "5.9.78" only but then, when I progressed, it became clear to me that "5.9.78" can't live without "Boqurant" because both tracks are integral and the beautiful transition between them confirms it totally. Why am I doing this, you ask? 1. To express how I admire BoC! 2. To set a challenge to myself so I can learn something new in audio production. Even if you do it for about 20 years there's still something more to learn. 3. I love covers that are faithful to the original (as much as possible) and especially with BoC certain sound and emotion are two most crucial elements. Besides, you can not improve on perfection, so the best way is to totally immerse in the mood of original work I stress, it's not easy at all. I had to spend some time to tweak the patches and recreate the sound, it took many evenings. All sounds were created on Yamaha AN1x, except the base intro patch (made on daHornet vst: http://nusofting.liqihsynth.com/freep...) and the mellotron type flute from Kurzweil SP 4-7. The beat was produced in Reaper. Everything was mixed in Reaper also. I used some wow and flutter effect, VHS tape emulation, the mix was even sent to my trustworthy AKAI cassette deck (without recording to tape but using cassette tape adaptor) and recorded again from its output. The tuning of the track is 31.3 cents higher from a standard A440 tuning. If you are interested in some more details please leave a comment. Don't forget to subscribe and share my work if you like it and if you are a fan of BoC like me. You can watch my other BoC covers on my channel.
