St. George's Hill Red and Blue Course: A Heathland Masterpiece St. George's Hill in Weybridge is nothing short of magnificent. Not only is it visually stunning, but its hilly, heathland terrain and Harry Colt's masterful design make it one of the finest golf courses I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing. St. George's Hill was the perfect start to my England and Scotland Golf Trip. Located about an hour outside of London in England’s renowned heathland belt, St. George's Hill offers a unique and spectacular landscape rarely seen in other heathland courses. The dramatic elevation changes create exceptional views from elevated tee boxes, with fairways that twist and roll toward elevated greens, all set against the backdrop of a lush English country forest. The clubhouse itself is a masterpiece—one of the most impressive I’ve encountered. With its grandeur reminiscent of a period piece about British aristocracy, it overlooks the first and ninth tee boxes as well as the tenth and eighteenth greens. Sitting on the patio, soaking in the views, is an experience in itself. Harry Colt’s design is nothing short of brilliant. He takes full advantage of the natural undulations, placing many greens atop mounds and plateaus, making the approach shots both challenging and rewarding. Although consistently ranked among the world’s top 100 courses, St. George’s Hill still feels underrated. Its combination of long, demanding holes mixed with short, risk-reward opportunities provides a well-balanced and engaging round of golf. If you’ve played Sunningdale Old, often considered the premier heathland course, you’ll find St. George's Hill a near equal in greatness, though distinct in its character. The membership and staff were very welcoming, making the experience even more memorable. Note: The driving range is about a five-minute drive from the course, but there are practice nets conveniently located near the pro shop.
