Russia is intensifying attacks on Ukraine’s Black Sea ports in what Moscow portrays as an effort to sever Kyiv’s maritime supply lifeline. The Russian Defence Ministry claims missile and drone strikes hit fuel-unloading facilities in Odesa, military fuel depots, infrastructure at Pivdennyi and a warehouse containing Western-supplied equipment. Moscow also alleges that several commercial vessels were carrying military cargo or supporting Ukrainian drone and unmanned-boat operations. Ukraine disputes that account, accusing Russia of targeting civilian port infrastructure and foreign merchant ships engaged in ordinary commercial activity. The reported strikes have not been independently verified. Beyond destroying individual shipments, Moscow’s strategy appears designed to make Odesa commercially intolerable for foreign carriers by increasing insurance costs, deterring crews and disrupting shipping routes.
