#161 - E.L.M.E.R. y Sable Island, CY0

In episode 161 of CQ on Frequency, we discuss a fundamental figure in amateur radio: the Elmers, those godfathers and mentors who help new radio amateurs take their first steps and grow within our hobby. We also travel to the interesting DXCC entity on Isla Sable, a remote and highly coveted location for DX enthusiasts, and review some international shortwave transmissions that can still be heard from various points around the world. We talk about DXing and Shortwave with the Spanish Association of Radio Listeners and some interesting contributions from our friend EA3GRW. In addition, we share a report on the latest activity of the Conecta-Radio Group, where QRP radio, HF operation, and DMR contacts once again demonstrated that the passion for amateur radio is still very much alive. Finally, we'd like to announce the seventh edition of the Amateur Radio Station Operator Course, which will be held from June 29th to July 3rd, 2026, at the Castelldefels School of Telecommunications and Aerospace Engineering (EETAC-UPC). This 20-hour in-person course, taught by EA3FNC, is designed for anyone interested in getting started in the exciting world of amateur radio and gaining the necessary knowledge to obtain an operator's license.
