Everyone knows the story of the prodigal son. But almost no one stops to consider the character who appears at the end and who may be the true recipient of the entire parable. Popular interpretations focus on the father's embrace and the welcome party. But Luke doesn't end there. The story continues with an older brother who remains outside, angry, refusing to go in, and with a father who goes out to find him with the same initiative he showed when running to find his younger son.
