MUSEU CURIE EM PARIS: A FAMÍLIA DE CIENTISTAS QUE ESTUDOU A RADIOATIVIDADE E A SUA APLICAÇÃO MÉDICA
Curie Museum in Paris: The Family of Scientists Who Studied Radioactivity and its Medical Applications | By Paris My Way This video offers an informative tour of the respected Curie Museum, dedicated to a family of scientists who studied radioactivity and contributed to the scientific revolution at the turn of the 19th century. The museum is located in the former Radium Institute of Paris, in the Latin Quarter. The discoveries of Marie Curie, Pierre Curie, Irène Curie, and Frédéric Joliot-Curie laid the foundation for the disciplines that study the atom and paved the way for numerous medical applications of radioactivity, including cancer treatment. In total, the family accumulated five Nobel Prizes. Marie and Pierre Curie discovered the chemical elements radium and polonium in 1898. They won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1903 for the discovery of natural radioactivity, a term coined by Marie Curie in her Theory of Radioactivity. Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1911 for her advanced studies on radium and polonium. She was the first woman to receive the Nobel Prize and the only one to accumulate two prizes in different fields. Irène Curie and Frédéric Joliot-Curie won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935 for the discovery of artificial radioactivity. Restored in 2012, thanks to the legacy of Ève Curie, the couple's youngest daughter who died in 2007, the Curie Museum reopened two years after renovation with a new and intelligent museographic route. Marie Curie's office, together with her personal chemistry laboratory, forms the 'historical heart' of the facilities, which preserve the memory of the scientist and her family. The Curie Museum, a great option for your trip to Paris, is divided into four themes: the Curie Family, five Nobel Prizes; Radium, between myth and reality; the Curie Laboratory, between physics and chemistry; and the Curie Foundation, for cancer treatment.
