Kleve, Germany | 4 Days of History & Nature 🍀

We spent 4 unforgettable days exploring Kleve, a charming city in the Lower Rhine region of Germany where medieval history, legendary tales, and peaceful nature trails all come together. From the swan-crowned towers of Schwanenburg Castle to quiet forest trails filled with hand-carved stone figures, Kleve surprised us at every turn. Filmed: 7-10 May 2026 Day 1 took us through the city center, starting at Kleve's main train station and the "Schuhsterken" bronze sculpture, before reaching Schwanenburg Castle — one of the oldest hilltop castles in the Lower Rhine, home to the legend that inspired Wagner's opera "Lohengrin." We continued to St. Maria Himmelfahrt Church, Prinz Moritz Park, and the Kermisdahl canal, where we rented a pedal boat before ending the day with dinner at Taj. Day 2 began with coffee at Roots Café and a visit to the B.C. Koekkoek House Museum, followed by the Forstgarten, the Amphitheater at Springenberg, and Kleve Tiergarten Zoo. We hiked up to the Springenberg viewpoint and through Sternberg Forest before finishing the day with pizza at Mama's Pizza. Day 3 was all about nature — the Reichswald Forest and its mysterious hand-built Steinmännchen stone figures, Kleve's countryside with its farms, horses, sheep, and donkeys, self-service ice cream at "Softies vom Jünkerrather Hof," and the peaceful Wildgehege Reichswalde wildlife enclosure. Day 4 closed the trip with a visit to Hochschule Rhein-Waal (Kleve University) and its tropical greenhouse, the Kleve Shoe Museum, and one last look at Schwanenburg Castle beautifully illuminated at night.
