Nový Máj – co se skrývá uvnitř?
The Máj department store on Národní třída has undergone a significant transformation - and its doors will soon open to the public. What awaits you inside? That's what we found out with the camera in this episode of the Live Prague series. A bit of history Máj was built in 1974 to mark the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Prague by the Red Army. After all, that is one of the reasons why it got its name. For its time, Máj was almost a revelation, and people stood in long queues to get in. After the revolution, however, the fame of the department store declined and only Tesco on the ground floor kept it alive. With a new owner came new ideas, and so in 2022 the reconstruction of May began. It is now slowly coming to an end. What lies ahead for the famous department store Eight floors of fun A harbinger of the opening and direction of May was the recent installation of butterflies by David Černý, which aroused considerable passion. And the May itself will probably arouse them as well. Don't expect a mall - the 8-storey building will be a centre of entertainment and luxury. What can you look forward to? Tesco will return to the basement. On the ground floor you will find an arcade connecting Národní třída with Quadrio and small shops or a pharmacy. On the second floor, restaurants and cafés await you under 251 black crystal chandeliers. One floor up, the gaming world begins - there will be darts, pool tables, arcade games, a giant car track for adults... But there will also be a bar, which you can reach through a tunnel made of bottles. The fourth floor hides other gaming attractions - indoor mini golf, pro Formula 1 simulators, a computer corner... And also a dance floor and a bar with a crystal skeleton. The next floor will be dedicated to the youngest children, for whom awaits the Lion's Den area with lots of attractions, climbing frames or a maze. Parents will appreciate the restaurant. The sixth floor will be dedicated to the history of Prague. In autumn, an interactive exhibition called Back in Time will start here. The next floor will be dedicated to comic book and superhero lovers. The eighth floor will take you into the world of luxury - at the longest marble bar in Europe you will be able to choose from more than 100 types of champagne, which will be chilled in a tub of ice. Upstairs, the highest observation deck in the city centre will be at your fingertips. So what do you think of the new Máj? Are you going to come here after it opens?
