A stroll around the Abbey Gardens in search of St Edmund, King of East Anglia and Martyr.

The Abbey ruins are well worth a visit. We went on an exploration to find the resting place of the King of East Anglia, Edmund, who ruled 855-869. He is also known as a martyr as well as the Saint of Bury St Edmunds. He was killed by Alfred the Great and his brother and buried in the Abbey before being moved to an unknown location. We were told by a tour guide that he may be buried under the tennis courts. This, however, still remains to be proven. The gardens are worth a look as they are wonderful all year round but exceptional in the summer. they are a wonderful place to picnic if just rest awhile.
