This concert took place on March 12, 2011, opening up with a moment of silence in recognition of the inestimable misfortune of Japan in current events. Later, the CSO's conductor, Maestro Francis Wada, warmly describes how he stumbled upon Umi after seeing her on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and how he immediately invited her to play with his orchestra. After appearing on stage, Umi then dedicates her performance to Japan, and proceeds to play Piano Concerto No 23 with the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra for her amazed audience...
