Thomas Ligotti: The Red Tower (Unabridged Audiobook)
I've been obsessed with Thomas Ligotti's "The Red Tower" for years. It lacks conventional plot and story, so the reading experience takes on a form unlike most short stories. Vitriol Gauge, Detroit experimental artist & synthesist, is similarly intrigued with horror, and we had long conversations about how to make space for this unique experience in an "audiobook" (I use that term loosely). Ligotti's nameless, unreliable narrator obsessively meanders through fanatical musings about this mystical, legendary place. Their descriptions are spiritual, industrial, organic, malformed, conflicted, odorous, mildly grotesque. We used synthesizers, every sound performed live, to help lend a little life and dimensionality to this. There are other great readings out there, and this one runs much longer than they do. This isn't the one to listen to if you're in a hurry, but it is the one if you're curious about a meditation on horror, guided by sound. We are ecstatic to finally release this, as we've obsessed and built on it for months! Hope you enjoy, and let us know other stories that you think would benefit well from this treatment.
