Is Santa Claus Village worth visiting in summer? We took my husband's family — visiting Finland for the very first time — on the overnight Santa Claus Express train up to Rovaniemi to find out. This is what a summer trip to the Arctic Circle, the midnight sun, and Santa Claus himself actually looks like in June. In this vlog we ride the night train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi, explore the Arktikum museum, take the local bus out to Santa Claus Village, meet the huskies, cross the Arctic Circle line, meet Santa Claus, and send a postcard home from Santa's Main Post Office with the official Arctic Circle postmark. And because some of the family had never been north of the equator, you also get to watch them experience the white nights — a sky that never goes dark — for the very first time. Here's the honest summer verdict, plus answers to the questions everyone asks before going: Can you visit Santa Claus Village in summer? Yes. Santa Claus Village is open year-round, and you can meet Santa Claus any day of the year — including summer. There are no Christmas crowds, so the queues are short. Is Santa Claus Village worth visiting in summer? For us, yes. You trade the snow for no crowds, easy access, and the midnight sun. A few winter-only attractions are closed (Mrs. Santa's was closed during our visit), so go in knowing you'll miss a couple of things. How do you get to Santa Claus Village from Rovaniemi? There's a regular public bus from Rovaniemi city centre straight to the Village — no tour or taxi needed. It's the cheapest and easiest way. Does it get dark in Rovaniemi in summer? No. Around midsummer the sun barely sets — these are the "white nights" / midnight sun. At midnight it can look like late afternoon. How cold is Lapland in June? Colder than most visitors expect. We were in jackets and hats. If you're coming from a warm climate, pack proper layers even in summer. What's open vs closed at Santa Claus Village in summer? Santa's house, the post office, the huskies and the animals are open.
