Castellar de la Muela (Guadalajara)

🚩 Castellar de la Muela is a municipality in the province of Guadalajara. Located in the Molina de Aragón Alto Tajo region. And in the Autonomous Community of Castilla-La Mancha. It lies at the foot of the Sierra de Caldereros mountain range, with views of the 1430-meter-high Pico del Lutero peak. Its origins date back to the 12th century, when these lands were repopulated by people from northern Castile after the Reconquista, forming part of the Lordship of Molina. It reached its peak between the 16th and 17th centuries, during which, according to local chroniclers, stately homes with coats of arms above their doorways were built, and the population and wealth grew. The ancient crosses carved into the large lintels of many of Castellar de la Muela's doorways deserve special attention. All of them date from the 18th century. Also noteworthy is the robustness of its reddish sandstone constructions. One of its main advantages is its privileged location, next to the municipality of Molina de Aragón and the N-211 highway that runs through the village. 📍Places to visit: Parish Church of the Exaltation of the Cross ⛪ Hermitage of Our Lady of the Holm Oak ⛪ Hermitage of Our Lady of Solitude ⛪ Wayside shrine Washhouse 🧼 Dovecotes 🕊️ Stone fountains by the sculptor Martín Mendieta ⛲ Old fountain with drinking trough ⛲ Forge 🔥 Oven 🍳 Old Priest's House 🏠 Town Hall 🏫 Threshing floors and old haylofts 🏚️ The Way of El Cid ⚔️ Old village of Los Villares 🏚️
