Does Size Matter?

Does SIZE matter? How big is BIG ...for a beak? Can a bigger beak out perform a smaller beak? Is it the size of the beak that matters or is it how you use it? To answer this question, I conducted a brief scientific experiment. I thought that it would be easier to understand (and more fun) to watch a demonstration experiment rather than provide a long-winded wikipedia answer. The first step in my experiment was to test a macadamia nut with a hammer to prove the degree of difficulty. Following that, I put four large macaw beaks (a Scarlet, Greenwing, and two Hyacinths) to the test to crack the macadamia. Cool fact is that the two largest birds in this video can pry open the cage bars and the two smaller birds cannot. Hope this video gives you some food for thought!
