Why US General Bradley Welcomed Hitler’s Last Attack | The D Day Files – Rush to Caen | S02E010

Operation Luttich, von Lüttwitz, Falaise Pocket 02:17 hours. Dense ground fog settles over the bocage south of Vire. A tank commander in the III. Battalion of the 2nd Panzer Division hears nothing but his own engine. No preparatory artillery. No reconnaissance aircraft. The order is simple: west. Avranches. The coast. The tracks bite into the mud. The tank moves out. It is the night of August 6th to 7th, 1944. General Heinrich von Lüttwitz is driving his armored columns westward, into the vacuum left by the American breakout. No barrage to burn the surprise. Only engines in the fog. By dawn, the 2nd Panzer Division has seized Le Mesnil-Tôve and pushed through to Le Mesnil-Adelée – fifteen kilometers deep into the American sector. It is the farthest advance by any German unit on the Mortain front since the collapse of Goodwood three weeks earlier. It is also the last. In today's video, Why US General Bradley Welcomed Hitler’s Last Attack | The D-Day Files – Rush to Caen | S02E010, we look at the catastrophic gamble that destroyed the German 7th Army. Keep watching to see the tactical madness of Hitler’s final counterattack, the legendary defense of Hill 314 where a single battalion halted an entire Panzer Corps, and the deadly reality of how a doomed offensive transformed the German retreat into an inevitable annihilation inside the Falaise Pocket.
