Old Fashioned Southern Style Green Beans - Best Ever Green Beans 1 ½ - 2 pounds ham hocks 4 pounds green beans 2 ½ teaspoons salt Using a sharp knife score (cut a slit) in each ham hock, place in a medium stock pot, and cover with water. Over medium high heat, bring ham hocks to a boil. Add green beans and salt. Reduce heat to a low and simmer for about 2 hours. Remove ham hocks from the pot, cut off meat from the bone, place meat back into the pot. Taste green beans to see if additional salt is needed, add additional salt according to personal taste. Serve warm and enjoy.
