Cheap and Simple Fret Slotting Jig
This is my interpretation of a type of fret slotting jig that has existed on the internet for some time. Basically, it is a mitre box with a feeler gauge in the bottom that borrows a pre slotted fretboard to locate and align your fretboards for slotting, all without damaging the pre slotted board. It costs next to nothing to make (scrap wood/MDF and a feeler gauge) instead of the hundreds you have to spend to get one from a luthier supplier that basically does the same thing. For dimensions, all you need is for the base to be roughly 300mm long so it is stable when clamping and cutting, and it needs to be wider than the fretboards you intend to cut. The sides just need to be tall enough to guide your saw properly. This jig requires you to buy a pre slotted board to be able to transfer the slots to your unslotted board, however you can just as easily transfer the slots to another piece of wood to use in the jig for future use, and use the pre slotted board in your build.
