BUENOS AIRES: La playa que TRUJILLO dejó desaparecer

This beach resort, once the pride of the people of Trujillo, is experiencing a sad reality marked by coastal erosion, pollution, and neglect. In this report, we trace its history, from its christening by philanthropist Víctor Larco Herrera in the late 19th century to its becoming a recreational spot for Trujillo families in the 1920s and 1930s. For years, it was a meeting point for philanthropists, artists, and intellectuals, such as the Grupo Norte group at the famous Morillas Casino. However, a bad decision changed everything… In 1952, the first breakwater was built in the port of Salaverry, and in 1982, a breakwater extending more than 600 meters out to sea was placed. Without an environmental impact study, this project disrupted the natural flow of the Humboldt Current, accumulating more than 90 million cubic meters of sand in Salaverry and leaving Buenos Aires, Las Delicias, and Huanchaco without sand. The beach receded more than 8 kilometers. But the damage doesn't end there. Today, Buenos Aires also suffers from the accumulation of garbage, land clearing, and high levels of insecurity. What was once a symbol of identity and pride is now crumbling before our eyes. This isn't just a video: it's a call to consciousness. To reflect on how the environment we live in shapes our way of seeing the world. Because growing up next to a beautiful beach isn't the same as growing up next to a dump.
