Easy Step-by-Step Dot Art Tutorial | Paint a Guitar | Anyone Can Do It | #48 - Namaste Guitar

Follow along as we paint this old guitar in the dot art mandala style with rainbow colours and metallics and transform it into a beautiful piece of art. I use a step-by-step process that is easy for beginners to follow. I identify tool sizes for you and the beautiful colour palette. Different techniques are demonstrated throughout the video as well. This was my son’s guitar and he had asked me to do some of my “mandala magic” on it for him. It has only taken a couple of years to get to it but I have finally finished it! I’ve used my favourite rainbow colours and, as promised, I am including the colour palette below. The first step was to sand the top of the Jerzey Guitar to give the paint something to adhere to. Following that I primed the top with Kilz Premium 3 Interior/Exterior Primer. One coat did the trick. I base-painted the top with CraftSmart Black Acrylic paint and I gave it three coats. I taped along the side of the guitar so I could bring the black down as a rim along the edge. Before beginning the dot art on the top, I varnished that side rim a couple of times with Liquitex High Gloss Varnish. This guitar would get moved around quite a bit during the painting process and I didn’t want to damage the edge that had already been painted. Have I mentioned how awkward it is painting a guitar in a small space?? Sometimes dot art mandala painting can be a meditative and calming process but there are times when things don't always go as planned. Thank goodness for editing! The thing to do when mishaps occur is to try and fix what you can at the moment. There are many ways to fix "errors" or mishaps so it looks like they never happened. Don't give up. All is not lost. Sometimes just stepping away for a bit will bring new positive energy into the project. Try to remain calm and know that most everything can be fixed. Namaste (as seen on the guitar) means "I bow to you". It is a respectful greeting and has been interpreted as “the light in me sees the light in you” or “the divine in you”. I love this. The colour palette I used included: DecoArt Americana acrylics in: Bright Orange Bright Yellow Sour Apple Ocean Blue Purple Pizzazz Fuchsia Pop If you decide to use True Red, I would advise adding a little gel medium. Otherwise go with the Festive Red below. In the Dazzling Metallics I used: Festive Red Glorious Gold Teal Purple Pearl In the CraftSmart Multi Surface Ultra Bright Metallic I used: Pink Tourmaline Liquitex Basics in: Titanium White (my favourite white for drying with no cracks!) I also used the Titanium Mixing White to add a little to the more translucent colours To varnish this guitar I used: Liquitex High Gloss Varnish. I gave it 3 coats. This guitar is to be used as wall art. I’ve ordered a unique guitar wall hanger to hang it on. I had no plan when I started this guitar, other than my colour palette. You will see that I have used stencils as well on this art guitar. Some of them are from Folk Art and the torus I ordered on Etsy. Different techniques used include dotting, outlining, swooshing, random dotting and top dotting. I made a decision early on that I didn’t want to crowd the guitar with design.
