Ypres: heart of the WWI commemoration in Flanders Fields, Belgium.

From October 1914 to October 1918, the western battlefield of the First World War was located a mile or two from the centre of Ypres. Not surprisingly, 4 years of relentless warfare, left the city in complee ruins. Today, there are no less than 247 cemeteries, monuments and memorials in what was once that notorious Ypres Salient. They still remind us of the futility of war, just like the daily Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, an eternal salute to the Fallen.
