In the third year after the destruction of the Kakhovka Reservoir by the Russian occupiers, we are going on an expedition to see what the coast of the Stary Dnieper River and the legendary Baidy Island (Mala Khortytsia) look like in 2026. In this video, we explore: 🌊 Changes in the hydrological regime of the Dnieper below the Dnieper HPP, fluctuations in water level, and the dynamics of the appearance and disappearance of shoals and braids. 🌿 Ecosystem development: how pioneer vegetation (willows, sedges) develops, how filamentous algae react to eutrophication (phosphate and nitrate content), and what animals and plants inhabit these spaces. 🏰 The history of Baidy Island: from the founding of the first fortress by Dmitry "Bayda" Vyshnevetsky in the 1550s to its destruction by Turkish troops. This island was once part of the coast! 🏺 Archaeological finds: we examine fragments of ancient ceramics (Serednyostogov, Chernyakhiv, Old Russian and Cossack) discovered on the coast.
