Teaching Receptive Language Language Skills & Following Directions to Kids with Autism
Dr. Mary Barbera discusses Teaching Receptive Language Language Skills & Following Directions to Kids with Autism. 👉👉 Parents and professionals: learn how to turn autism or early signs around with Dr. Mary Barbera’s proven resources: https://bit.ly/4iwyKEH 👈👈 It is very important that your child or client is able to comprehend your language, at least to some extent. Being able to comprehend language will help them follow directions, and let them know what is wanted from them. So that’s why today’s episode will focus on how to build receptive language abilities; how to assess comprehension; when to use visuals, and more! For example, visuals are a great way to teach anybody a new word; as a matter of fact, most people learn best by using visuals. But if you don’t know when it’s appropriate to use visuals and when it isn’t, then your child can become dependent upon them and won’t actually recognize the word. In today’s video you’ll learn: ✔️ Why assessing and teaching receptive language to children or people with autism is more important than teaching them expressive language skills. ✔️ How to assess between a language comprehension issue or a receptive language issue. ✔️ Ways to make assessments fun and avoid problem behaviors during assessment. ✔️ Why it’s important to plan for reinforcement and what kind of materials will be used to teach direction following. ✔️ When to pull in visuals to teach and fade out on prompts. 🔔 Subscribe for more #parenting videos: http://bit.ly/41c1tae 📝 Take the Barbera Early Childhood Assessment (BECA)™️ to find your starting point: https://marybarbera.com/assessment/?u... 📖 Get the free book resources here: https://marybarbera.com/new-book/?utm... 📚 Online toddler and school age courses: https://bit.ly/41Gir1m 💬 Subscribe on Facebook for more free resources: https://bit.ly/3tq3u6T If you enjoyed this video about Receptive Language, and want more autism podcast episodes like this one, be sure to subscribe to the channel, like this video and visit my website below.
