#metroidvania #topmetroidvania #castlevania #metroid When you stop to think about a genre that can integrate intricate exploration, a sense of constant progression, and well-designed interconnected levels, it's inevitable that your mind will end up turning to the metroidvania genre. Since pioneering series like Metroid and Castlevania shaped it, this type of video game has become a favorite for all those players who enjoy collecting all kinds of secrets from their surroundings and who love returning to areas they've previously visited. Over time, the popularity of metroidvanias has not only remained the same, but has also improved year after year thanks to independent offerings that, inspired by the quintessential classics of this genre we've already mentioned, have managed to add their own distinctive touch. In this way, sagas as legendary as Metroid have been able to renew themselves over the decades. Moving from 2D to 3D, as we saw in Metroid Prime, or even returning to its classic two-dimensionality like Metroid Dread, but bringing a renewed artistic approach and much more frenetic gameplay than seen generations ago. That's why today I'm bringing you a review of the 20 Metroidvanias you can't miss. A list in which we'll talk about games like Blasphemous 2, with its brutal religious atmosphere, or Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, one of the main reasons why the genre is what it is today. We also explore more recent titles like Afterimage, which manages to combine stunning visual beauty and demanding difficulty, or the captivating Ori and the Blind Forest and its sequel (which have managed to keep us playing their soundtrack on repeat).
