Georgia, a former Soviet republic, is in turmoil. It is expected to achieve economic growth of over 6% by 2023, and its main industries, high-quality Georgian wine and tea, are highly popular in Japan. However, tensions between pro-Western and pro-Russian factions are intensifying, leading to a series of demonstrations. Presidential elections were held in December, and Mikheil Kavelashvili, supported by the pro-Russian "Georgian Dream" party, was elected by a majority vote. The pro-Western incumbent, Zurabishvili, has not acknowledged the results. Some have pointed out that the domestic situation in Georgia is similar to that of Ukraine from the 2010s to the 2020s.
