CORRECTING A SUB-STANDARD, POORLY PERFORMED HAIR TRANSPLANT (DONE BY BLACK MARKET OPERATORS), AND BRIEFLY OUTLINING WHAT THIS ENTIALS: This patient had a hair transplant of approximately 2000 follicle units in Jan 2019 in Istanbul, Turkey. His main concern was that his hairline was looking unnatural, and this bothered him and also the fact that he was losing hair behind the transplanted hairline in the frontal zone, the mid-scalp and crown area. On examination, his hairline had no “transition zone” which is normally created by using Single Hair Follicles to create a softer feathered zone that leads into Double Hair Follicles and then Triple Hair Follicles creating a denser area behind the transition zone that corresponds with a natural appearing hairline. Also, the direction and angle of the hairline follicles varied and were placed at incorrect angles and directions and there were many three hair follicles placed in the hairline margin. The hairline irregularity was also overly exaggerated and this appeared unnatural. There was clear evidence of ongoing miniaturization (hair loss) throughout the frontal zone, mid-scalp and crown area. This was no surprise, as he was not taking medication to prevent this: Proscar; Loniten; Nizoral, Dermaroller, which is required for maintaining stabilization of Androgenetic Alopecia. Repair Process briefly outlined: The follicle units were transplanted into the wrong locations and incorrect direction and incorrect angles. As indicated on the demarcation line drawn about 1 cm above the hairline and the pictures taken during the consultation, all the Triple and Double follicle units below the outer 5mm area were excised (removed) and re-implanted further back. It required subsequent sessions to excise (remove) regrown follicles. Approximately 20% of excised follicles regrow due to stem cells that remain.
