My principal commented on a young Black girl’s hair, implying that it was nappy while comparing her to her sister. When I spoke up, the explanation was that it was only about the siblings looking different. Moments like this point to something much bigger. For generations, Black hair has been judged against Eurocentric beauty standards, and words like insinuating, thay a child has nappy or unlwpt hair carries painful historical weight. Even when people say they “didn’t mean it that way,” the impact on a child’s confidence, identity, and sense of belonging still matters. This video is not about attacking individuals. It’s about awareness, accountability, and creating environments where every child feels valued exactly as they are.
