Signal Corps footage from the battle of the Hurtgen Forest
Various scenes from the advance into Germany in early November 1944, including a long sequence of an African American artillery unit (the 969th Field Artillery Battalion) in action in Luxemburg; an infantry unit (110th Infantry Regt) advancing through heavy forest near Hurtgen; and shots of engineers (1104th Engineer Combat Group) neutralizing an enemy bunker. This reel was captured on a mirrorless digital camera from a 35mm work print on a flatbed film viewer in the National Archives research room in College Park from a U.S. Army Signal Corp film. The quality is limited by the optical characteristics of the projection and screen.
