But in recent years, the impressive landscape has attracted many creative people to the island, who seek inspiration, try new things, and revive old traditions. Painter Diana Mackie came from London 20 years ago. She built a new home on Skye overlooking her own private bay. Her paintings reflect the weather and the nature she finds right outside her window. The Wilson brothers are searching for herbs in the mountains around Portree for a royal gin, assisted by "Skye Ghillie" Mitchell Partridge, the traditional gamekeeper of the local clans. These clans once ruled the island and fought against the royal leader. Today, tensions have calmed down, and the Queen has even visited Clan MacLeod for tea at Dunvegan Castle. Young dancer Sophie Stephenson teaches traditional Scottish step dancing, which was first practiced by the emigrants in Canada. She hopes to carry on the tradition through her commitment. Rob Miller, a musician from southern England, set up a workshop in a small hut next to his house and made the first sword almost 30 years ago. Today, he is one of the best swordmakers in the world and has even been approached by Prince Charles for his art. #wocomoTRAVEL #BritishIsles Original title: The Queen's Islands © Licensed by Berlin Producers
