Welcome to Robbie Travels and today we will visit Charleroi Belgium, the largest city in the region of Wallonia and will discover what is often overlooked as a tourist destination. Among Belgians, the former mining town of Charleroi is generally viewed as derelict, poor and polluted because it has one of the highest crime rates in the country and one in four inhabitants are unemployed. It certainly does not have as much to offer as widely visited Brussels and Bruges but what it lacks in mass appeal, Charleroi makes up for with its character. An industrial city with an interesting and honest history, Charleroi will intrigue anyone looking for more than just glitz and glamour in their travel destinations. The convenient location of Charleroi has provided this place with the role of the largest transportation hub of European importance. The airport located here is called Brussels-Charleroi, The canal that connects the city with the largest waterways. The role of Charleroi as an important railway junction is also hard to overestimate. Despite its social setbacks Charleroi is home to a world-renowned photography museum and has an impressive industrial heritage as well as a rich comic strip history.
