Fusion 360 From Zero | Beginner Step-by-Step Modeling Tutorial

Hole Definition: A specialized tool for creating standard drill holes, counterbores, and countersinks. How it works: While you could just Extrude a circle to make a hole, the Hole tool is smarter. You select a face or points, and then choose from a library of standard hardware sizes (e.g., "ISO M6 Screw"). It automatically cuts the correct diameter and creates the head clearance (counterbore) for you. Best for: Creating mounting points for screws, bolts, and fasteners without needing to look up drill charts. 2. Revolve Definition: Creates a 3D solid by rotating a sketch profile around a center axis. How it works: Think of a pottery wheel or a lathe. You draw half of the object (the profile) and a center line (the axis). Fusion 360 sweeps that profile around to create a cylindrical or spherical shape. Best for: Round objects like wheels, pulleys, bottles, and chess pieces. 3. Extrude Definition: The primary tool for turning 2D sketches into 3D forms by giving them depth. How it works: You select a closed sketch region and push or pull it. Join: Adds material to an existing body. Cut: Removes material (like a punch). New Body: Creates a separate object. Best for: Creating the main geometric volume of almost any mechanical part (brackets, blocks, plates). 4. Fillet Definition: Rounds the sharp edges of a solid body. How it works: You select an edge, and the tool creates a smooth radius. This creates a tangent transition between two faces. Best for: Ergonomics: Making a handle comfortable to hold. Strength: Reducing stress concentrations where parts often crack. Manufacturing: Machining tools (end mills) are round, so they cannot cut perfect sharp inside corners; fillets mimic the tool shape.
