In São Paulo, a new trend is transforming the real estate market by adding balconies to older buildings. This process is known as "retrofit" and has gained prominence for significantly increasing apartment space without residents having to move. The city already has notable examples of this practice, especially in neighborhoods where there is no more land available for new construction. An emblematic example is the apartment of businessman Alberto Alves in Itaim Bibi, in the southern part of the city.
