Rubbing sound in pulley | Conveyor Pulley | Material Handling System |

Hello Friends, In this video I have shared some basic reasons behind the rubbing sound in conveyor pulley. Rubbing sound between the shaft and the drum disc in your conveyor belt pulley setup is a sign of relative movement or contact that shouldn’t be happening if everything is tight and aligned. 1.Loose or Improper shaft-drum fit If Loose or the shaft isn’t interference-fitted or tightly coupled with the drum hub, micro-movements (called fretting) can occur. Even a keyed connection alone might not prevent all rotational slip under dynamic or shock loading. 2.Worn or Loose Key/Keyway Evidence to Look For: Visible play in the key. Hammered or dented key sides. Noise mostly during start-up/stop (when torque spikes). 3.Shaft or Drum Bore Wear Wear due to long-term operation or micro-movements leads to clearance between shaft and drum. 4.Misalignment (Axial or Radial) When the shaft and drum aren't perfectly coaxial, the drum may "wobble", creating side rubbing or eccentric rotation. 5.Thermal Expansion Effects When your system heats up during operation, especially in heavy-duty or outdoor conditions, expansion may change the interference or create thermal stress. 6.Insufficient Locking (Set screws/ Clamping Hub) Set screws or clamping collars may be used to hold the drum in position. If they come loose, the drum may shift slightly. 7.Imbalance Vibrational Looseness An unbalanced pulley or uneven belt load causes vibrations which loosen connections over time.
