They also use paraffin threads, cotton wool and nail polish to give matches miraculous properties. This is practical and educational, but starting to melt wax or paraffin for one or two short hikes is not always cost-effective. It is much easier to buy ready-made moisture-resistant matches. They do not have clear standards for length and burning time. The main quality is one: they should successfully light after getting wet. Factories usually do not disclose the impregnation compositions in detail. But if the match after testing lights up calmly and evenly, it is easy to guess that it has been treated not just with wax or paraffin, but also, at a minimum, with stabilizing agents. And at home, they are quite difficult to obtain.
