This time, we’re setting out to hunt dentex and other seasonal predators. We begin in a remote and challenging gulf surrounded by deep blue waters and rocky terrain. The plan is simple: start with a few easy catches in the shallows and then move deeper in search of the bigger fish. 🌊 In the shallows, Simos quickly secures our first fish of the day. With good teamwork, we manage to land a couple more parrotfish before heading deeper. I switch to my invert roller speargun as we take turns exploring spots that feel alive and full of movement. From the depths, dentex and barracudas appear in the distance, but none of them come close enough for a shot. 🔱 We decide to change spot and keep moving. Along the way, I catch a couple more parrotfish before spotting a beautiful goldblotch grouper that unfortunately slips into a narrow hole. Through a few more ambushes, we add more fish to the stringer and even encounter a rare mottle sea hare — a strange, bat-like sea slug. As the sun sets, we make our way back to shore, stopping for quick ambushes that bring in a few more fish and wrap up a solid first day. 🐟 A few days later, we regroup for another round at a promising new location where pelagic species are common. My plan this time is to catch an early parrotfish, clean it on the spot, and use it to attract baitfish — hoping to draw in passing amberjacks. The plan works perfectly. Not long after, a school of amberjacks appears. Simos opens the show with a long shot, while I manage to land one from the surface shortly after. 🎯 Further along the coast, we reach a prime ambush spot. During a dynamic dive, I approach a goldblotch grouper but it turns away just as I shoot and escapes into the rocks. As the light begins to fade, a few dentex appear in hunting mode but remain cautious and keep their distance. Just when we’re about to call it a day, a beautiful amberjack suddenly appears out of nowhere.
