US President Donald Trump has escalated his criticism of Spain over the country's role in NATO and has instructed his Treasury Secretary to cut off "all" bilateral trade, "including visits." "Spain is a lost cause. I don't want to do any more business with Spain ever again. I would like to cut it off. Spain is a terrible ally in NATO," Trump declared during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Trump has not issued a written order regarding Spain, nor has his administration made any official announcement. Instead, as is his custom, he hinted at it in statements to the media. During his meeting with Rutte, Trump reiterated his criticism of NATO for its military spending, the allies' stance on Iran, and Greenland.
