Turtle Scoring Makes No Sense... Until You Know This
One of the most confusing rules in IBJJF is how turtle affects scoring. People constantly ask why taking someone down into turtle scores 2 points, but wrestling up from turtle doesn't. The answer is actually pretty simple: Turtle is a bottom position but not a guard. Once you understand that distinction, almost every turtle scoring situation makes sense.
