Supreme Council member Shin Dong-wook asked, "By whose judgment was it decided that Gwangju and Jeonnam are the optimal locations for trillions of won in semiconductor investment?" Supreme Council member Kim Jae-won also argued, "The government is politically pushing semiconductors into Gwangju and Jeonnam, where infrastructure is not even properly established, while Gumi, the semiconductor special zone, has now been relegated to the background." In particular, lawmakers and local government heads from Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province held emergency press conferences to protest. North Gyeongsang Governor Lee Cheol-woo stated, "I felt a sense of crisis that if we remain passive, Daegu and North Gyeongsang might wither away," while Daegu Mayor-elect Choo Kyung-ho asserted, "This is a political decision that divides the Yeongnam and Honam regions, fostering regional conflict and distrust." In response, former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo singled out local lawmakers from Daegu and remarked, "They are taking issue with the semiconductor investment announcement, but it is all their own doing." He further criticized the local politicians, stating, "Daegu's decline is the fault of the local politicians," and pointed out, "It is because you, who don't know how to work and have empty heads, went around acting tough, swaggering, and causing trouble just because you are lawmakers."
