New Year's Eve - Jack Rabbit (Tiny Desk Submission 2022)
Growing up in a Texas high school where being queer would get her expelled under contract, Mo constantly walked the line between knowing herself and hiding herself. She was in love with a girl and never said it, and this song is a reimagining of everything that could have happened had she been brave enough to say it. Though this song has that deep pining that is so familiar to queer love, it is also a celebration of the fact that Mo was able to truly find a way to herself, to a community and family that loves her, and to a band that not only embraces her queerness, but sees it as essential to their art-making. Jack Rabbit’s music finds itself at the intersection of indie, folk and pop- comfortably toeing the line between soft harmonious melodies and gut-punching lyricism. LA-based with roots that reach back to Texas and Mexico, Andy and Mo craft songs that intertwine their identities to form a new perspective on love, loss, queerness, home and heartbreak. Countdown’s starting down to midnight I see your face, I always do
