Armed with just an $18 Walmart backpack and a pickleball paddle as backup, I set out to see if residents would give a stranger a lift. The Villages is America's largest 55+ community with over 130,000 residents and more golf carts than cars. In this unique community tour, I wanted to experience it the way locals do - cruising in golf carts through perfectly manicured neighborhoods, past countless golf courses, and into the heart of this retirement paradise. What started as a crazy idea turned into incredible conversations with residents who shared their stories, showed off their brand new golf carts, and gave me insider perspectives on life in The Villages. From learning about golf cart accidents to discovering how residents navigate this massive community, every ride revealed something new.
