The Flight of Kikuidataki | Marek Pasieczny キクイダタキの飛 翔 (Nico Tommasi)
Kikuidataki is the name of the smallest bird in Japan and the World's smallest hummingbird of its kind, characterized by its yellow crown crest. The native script is "King birds". The composer on his work tells: "I strived to capture and imitate its movements through sonoristic and colouristic effects". The composition is divided into two parts: "Glimpse" is a prelude characterized by unique and innovative sound effects, all carefully described in words in the score, to be interpreted in the best possible way. This movement appears free from any norm, created specifically to introduce the public to the enchanted atmosphere of the little protagonist. "Flight" proposes a game of arpeggiated harmonics that simulate the flapping of wings, interspersed with a freer and more poetic moment in which the Japanese impression is represented. The main melody is inspired by and based on the notes of "Itsuki no komuriuta" (Itsuki Village Lullaby 五 木 の 子 守 唄), a popular song by Kyushu-Kumamoto (熊 本地). The story tells how from the 18th century up to the Meiji era ("period of the enlightened reign" of Emperor Mutsuhito, from 1868 to 1912) girls from poor families were sent to the rich to work as wet nurses. Only once a year, at O-Bon festival - a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of their ancestors - they were allowed to visit the family. Japanese lullabies are songs to describe the difficult lives of these little girls at that time, the text gives an example: I certainly hate Taking care of the crying child. They hate me for keeping the child to cry, They hate me for keeping the child to cry. The sleeping child's Cuteness and Innocent look! The crying child's ugly look, The crying child's ugly look.
